How do we please God?
Philippians 2 :13 (NLT)
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
It is Him, the resurrected Christ in us and we in Him that empowers us and gives us the desire to please Him. It is not to strive with our hard works or efforts to please Him. We only need to trust in this promise that it is Him that works in us to do just that.
So, in fact, our response to that promise is simply to believe; to allow and flow with the leading of the Holy Spirit. Obedience is basically the fruit of belief. Unbelief generates disobedience and rebellion.
God's promises are always 'Yes' and 'Amen'. Works distorts God's promises to 'Yes, and 'BUT' you must do this and that. Works, which is basically human effort to recommend himself to God, is rooted in the Law. 'Works' burdens you with an endless 'to do' list and snatches you away from ever enjoying His promises. The Pharisees in Jesus' time love dead works and are always at odds with Jesus.
Jesus is the personification of Grace. He had done it all for your behalf. Grace recommends you to God and produces good works in us, not dead works. Believe and receive.
