Revealing Jesus in the Jubilee

In the book of Leviticus 25, the Sabbath year is mentioned.  In the seventh year,  the land was given rest and that no work was allowed on the land.  This meant that there was no ploughing, no maintenance of crops and the people were just to eat out of the land that God supplied.  In fact on the sixth year, God supplied in abundance of harvest so that harvest on the sixth year was able to last for the seventh year, the year of rest, plus the eight year which was the year of planting, when there was no possibility of any harvest and also the ninth year, when they were still waiting for the harvest.  So, God provided three years of food supply for the people of God  to remember the Sabbath year.  This is favour and rest in Him.  Not only that, slaves were set free, but for those slaves who loved the master so much, they could stay back and remain as bond slaves. Debths were also cancelled.

The Jubilee year was the culmination of Sabbath years; it was  7X7Sabbath years and on the day of Atonement, which was the 7th day of the tenth month, the trumpet was blown, announcing the arrival of the year of Jubilee. On the day of atonememt, the High Priest would lay his two hands on the head of the scapegoat and confess all the sins of the people; then the scapegoat was led  away in the wilderness and be set free, never to be remembered anymore.  This scapegoat is a type reflecting Jesus whom God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21). Now, atonement  is fulfilled by the perfect sacrifice of our Lord Jesus. Our Jubilee is now eternal as  the Jubilee is the culmination of all Sabbaths.

In the year of Jubilee, the people again rested and God supplied; it was again rest and favour. Also, not only slaves were set free, but also bond slaves.  Now, the reality is if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (Jn 8:36).  We are no longer slaves to sin.

Furthermore, everyone returned to the land of their ancestors in the Year of Jubilee.  It is basically restoration of lost inheritance.  Now we have Christ himself restoring to us what was lost in the Garden of Eden due to Adam’s disobedience :

18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.(Romans 5:18). As original owners, we can keep every possession (taken away by Satan)   because of Christ.  Hallelujah.

The Jubilee Year is the Favourable Year of the Lord and is fulfilled by Jesus.  Christ himself said this in Luke 4:19-21 that he came to proclaim the favourable year of the Lord and today, this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing :

14 And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district. 15 And He began teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all.
16 And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. 17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written,
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed,
19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
20 And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.

Hallelujah.  Jesus is our Jubilee. He fulfills the Law of the Jubilee Year. Rejoice
