13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.[d]
Satan’s strategy is to attack those areas as highlighted and to give us falsehood instead. Hence our strategy is to know the truth and stand firm. The truth is found in the word of God and is revealed to us by the Spirit of Truth.
Hebrews 11 is a chapter about faith.
1 Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.
As believers, we have faith in the promises of God such as :
-God is Love [1 John 4:8 ]
8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
- His love is unconditional, it was given while were still sinners [Romans 5:8]
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
-We are the Beloved of the Lord : His love is irrevocable and tenacious [Romans ]
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[o] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-God’s righteousness is in us and when God sees us, He sees the righteousness of Jesus that is on us, [2Corinthians ], [Romans ]
21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,[e] so that we could be made right with God through Christ. [2Corinthians ],
17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. [Romans 5:17]
-We are no longer under the law; we have a new way of living in the Spirit (the new covenant) [Romans 7:4-6]
4 So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God. 5 When we were controlled by our old nature,[b] sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death. 6 But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.
- Jesus has died for our sins and has now resurrected and that the Spirit of God that raise Jesus from the dead is in us [Ephesians -20]]
19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.-The New Covenant came into effect after Christ's death, not before [Hebrews -17].
15 That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.
16 Now when someone leaves a will,[g] it is necessary to prove that the person who made it is dead.[h] 17 The will goes into effect only after the person’s death. While the person who made it is still alive, the will cannot be put into effect.
-We are now living in the new covenant in the Spirit, not the old covenant of the law or flesh that brings death and condemnation. [2Corinthians 3:6]
6 He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.
-that the Spirit of truth is now in us to teach us all about Him [John -15]
12 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.
-The gospel (goodnews is the power unto salvation [Romans -17]
16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.[g] 17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”[h]
- and so on.................................................................
We know that the armor of God : truth, God’s righteousness, Goodnews, faith, salvation and word of God are all intertwined. The armor is in having faith in the truth revealed by the Spirit that the gospel is the power unto salvation that is rendered to us through the finished work of Jesus on the cross, where all the curses of the law are extinguished, and hence, setting us free from condemnation.
In the final analysis, the armor of God is already in us when we walk in the unforced rhythm of grace through His finished work, the new Covenant. Only believe.
Otherwise, the devil has a field day shooting fiery darts of condemnation that we are never good enough for God. This will then trigger us to do something to earn a good standing with God with our good works and efforts. Hence, we end up with the mixture of law and grace and in confusion; tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine; wandering in the wilderness; tired and burnt out; double-minded and not able to receive the blessings He has given us and to enter into His rest.
To some, the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (good works) is tempting as they can then boast of their good works to others.
I encourage you to eat the fruit from the Tree of Life. Here we can only boast of the Lord as it is all about what He has done for us, not us doing for Him.
