The humanity of Jesus

1 John 4

1 Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. 2 This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet[
a] acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. 3 But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.

The litmus test for false prophet is to find out whether he acknowledges the humanity of Jesus (that Jesus Christ came in a real body). Why is the humanity of Jesus important?

When Jesus came down to earth, He emptied himself of the divine power from heaven and was born a human being, as described in Phillipians 2.

Philippians 2 (New Living Translation)

Though he was God,[
a] he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges[b]; he took the humble position of a slave[c] and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,[d] 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

In the temptation of Jesus, in Luke 4, Jesus demonstrated His humanity that He needed to depend on the Spirit of God, just like us…He was full of the Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit in the desert where He fasted and was tempted by the devil; He resisted the devil by using the words of God, just like us.

Jesus also indicated he drove demons out by the Spirit of God (Matt 12:28). He did not raise Himself up from the dead. Acts 2:24 says that God raised Him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

Jesus’ humanity required Him to depend on the grace of God (divine enablement ) for Him to perform miracles, resist temptation and be resurrected from the dead. Jesus is the great example for us and gives us hope that there is victory for us as human beings when we depend on God’s enablement, or His grace. We can do the things that Jesus did as in this verse:

John 14
12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Therefore if someone discourages you from performing miracles or healings by the Spirit of God by saying that you are not like Jesus who is God, then show them God's word in 1Jn4. Rejoice.
