Discerning the truth

Exodus 7 (New International Version)

8 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 9 "When Pharaoh says to you, 'Perform a miracle,' then say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,' and it will become a snake."

10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake.

11 Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: 12 Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake.

But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Yet Pharaoh's heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.

If we do not want to be cheated with the counterfeit $1000 note, we need to know the authentic one. The counterfeit note is usually made to look similar to the authentic one on first pass, but unless we know all about the authentic note, we will not be able to detect the subtle difference.

If we think we know the real $1000 note which actually is not, then we will be cheated all the time for the rest of our life and we will be terribly poor and miserable. That will be a tragedy. Hence knowing the authentic note is very important. This applies similarly to our christian walk if we do not want to live a defeated, miserable christian life.

In this incident recorded in Exodus, we see that Pharaoh’s magicians were able to turn their staffs into snakes, similar to the miracle that God performed on Aaron’s staff. So what is the difference? …but wait, the ultimate result is that Aaron’s staff swallowed up all (means all!) the magicians staffs, hence exposing the fakes.

The devil always tries to match the truth of God with something that looks similar to the truth (counterfeit) and this is where Christians are sometimes gullible. The devil cunningly packages his set of counterfeit ‘truths’ as seemingly harmless pious, religious devotions and practices and we sometimes promote the devil’s scheme without even realising it. Unless we have the revelation of the truth in us to swallow up all the schemes of the devil, we will not even notice that we are already in the devil’s dragnet.

Rejoice, when we walk in that living relationship with God, the Spirit of truth that resides in us will reveal/guide/teach us into all truth and these revelations of truth will swallow up and eventually expose the counterfeit ‘truth’.

Hence, we do not have to fear of counterfeits. Some christians are fearful of speaking in tongues, for example, for fear it is from the devil – may I suggest, allow the Spirit of truth that resides in you to reveal the truth to you, instead of reading/listening to imaginations and philosophies of others that actually exalteth against God. Revelations of truths have to align with the word of God.

Please know that one of the schemes of the devil is to throw us with religion, so as to divert us from the centrality of Jesus. The devil wants us to wander again in the wilderness, to walk in circles with our christian walk, instead of going direct to the promised land by believing that Jesus has already done everything for us; we only need to enter in. Rejoice, again I say rejoice.
