Minister of Life and Minister of death in the church

2 Corinthians 3 (New International Version)

The Glory of the New Covenant

7Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, 8will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! 10For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. 11And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

12Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. 14But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect[
a] the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

There is a Minister of death and Minister of life in the church today, just as nowadays you can have Dr Death (who kills most patients who are under his/her care). We need to be conscious of whose ministry we are following, as ultimately, we are responsible for our own well being.

The death ministry is brought about if we dwell and teach on the old covenant beliefs (engraved in stone-the ten commandments-the law) or in other words, ministry in the flesh. On the contrary, ministry of life comes through ministering in the new covenant, that is ministry in the Spirit.

The ministry in the Spirit can set people free, because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. The ministry in the flesh, works in the opposite, it sows bondage and fear and death.

When we operate with old covenant thinking, when we dwell in the old covenant lifestyle, our minds are dull or veiled from seeing the glory of God, which can only be enjoyed when we operate in the ever-increasing glory of the new covenant. The old covenant has glory but unfortunately it is a fading glory but the new covenant’s glory surpasses the former.

When we sit under teachings of new covenant, we experience liberation and lifting of our inner man. On the other hand, when we sit under teachings of old covenant mindset, we get heaviness and condemnation. These are just manifestations/fruits of the new covenant and old covenant ministry.

It is easy to discern what is of God and what is of the flesh when we understand what is from the old and new covenant. Rejoice. Please understand this that those whose mindsets are of the old covenant will have the veil over their minds and eyes so that they find difficulty in understanding and seeing the things of the Sprit, because whenever “Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts”.

When we uphold Jesus, when we live in the new covenant of His finished work, then …”But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away”. Rejoice – “ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom

Thank you Lord for setting us free and tearing away that veil (just as the veil in the temple was torn into two) from us so that we can enter with confidence into His presence. Enjoy this new relationship He wants with us - it can only come through the new covenant.Rejoice
