Matthew 11 (The Message)
28-30"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
Religion gives you a different gospel. It burdens you instead of lifting your burdens. Religion is a hard task master and it enslaves you. Religion demands you to do more, to do better etc..as the hard task master is never satisfied. Religion is insiduous, it is not obvious and can creep into our christian walk without noticing it. The father of religion is the devil, it stems from the beginning of the fall of our first Adam who obeyed Satan to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Since then, there is that constant temptation of having our christian walk based on good efforts/activities/programs/methods which are not necessarily God's timing or ways. Religion tries to pave a way to reach God, to please God. Jesus has already paved the way as He is the way, the truth and the light.
If you are tired of being tired of becoming a Christian, if your Christian life is based on events, self discipline or self improvements, if you are constantly in the vicious cyle of rededication at altar calls, if you are running from one meeting or program/activity to another, then I suggest you try to take an antidote- take a rest in Him instead and stop trying to be busy pleasing Him. He is well pleased with us already because of what Jesus did for us on our behalf. Try having a Christian lifestyle of relationship with Him instead of responding to events. Only trust in His finished work – just enjoy relationship with Him as He is your friend that sticks closer than a brother. In the story of Mary and Martha, Jesus said only one thing is needful - this is rest in Him, fellowship with Him.
Once our Christian lifestyle is based on relationship with Him and His finished work, then our christian activities will be an overflow of the love of God from inside out, then activities are no longer events but a natural outflow of this new lifestyle. Similarly, prayer or meditation....will not be events but a lifestyle, with no outside pressure/stirrings or demands or reliance on methods/camp meetings/ seminars/retreats......
Too good to be true?-Only believe what He says and live in what He says.:))
