The birth of Jesus is the start of the fulfillment of Gen 3 :15…”I am declaring war between you and the Woman, between your offspring and hers. He’ll wound your head, you’ll wound his heel.”
When the first Adam ate the fruit from the Tree of knowledge of good and evil, sin came upon all mankind and hence mankind was separated from God. Satan thought he had the victory. However, God had an incredible plan to restore mankind back to the Tree of Life from that broken relationship by sending His only begotten son Jesus to earth.
The virgin birth, the conception by the Holy Spirit is God’s divine plan to overcome Satan. The virgin birth enabled Jesus to be sinless so that He is not under the lineage of the first Adam and to be under sin. Jesus, hence, born as of man, yet sinless, qualifies Him to be able to represent mankind to fight for our victory over Satan. The virgin birth also enabled Jesus to be born of God, as He is the only begotten son of God. As He is of God, He is more powerful than the strong man (Satan), so that He can represent mankind in overcoming Satan.
So, the birth of Jesus is the greatest gift from Heaven that kicked off the whole redemption plan of God to restore you and me back to the Tree of Life. The restoration plan is completed when Jesus cried on the cross “It is finished”. He defeated Satan by stripping him (the ancient serpent at Garden of Eden) bare of the authority that the first Adam handed over to Satan when Adam ate the fruit of the Tree of knowledge of good and evil.
The good news is that this greatest gift is for any one who wants it. If Santa gives you a Christmas gift, all you need to do is to believe that the gift is yours, receive it and say thank you. This greatest gift from heaven, Jesus, is yours too, only believe that He is also for you and receive Him with thanks. A gift is never to be earned but to be received. If a gift is to be earned, then, it is no longer a gift but a wage!.
This greatest gift of Jesus for us is the only gift that is indescribable (2Cor 9:15 : Thanks be unto God for His indescribable gift). All other Christmas gifts can be described in some form, as you can read the descriptions from catalogues and advertisements.
Let be try if I can describe this indescribable gift :
He is Jesus, son of God, Lord of lords, King of kings, healer, redeemer, stronghold, Prince of Peace,……...... (even the whole of Google web space won’t be able to contain all the descriptions, even my earthly vocabulary can never adequately describe this gift, even my whole life time will not be able to describe Him as I am limited in knowledge of Him)….He is a limitless, an indescribable gift from Heaven.
Please unwrap this gift in your life this Christmas. Some Christians have this indescribable gift, but have forgotten to unwrap that gift fully to reveal the full splendour of that gift.
The new covenant, the everlasting covenant is much more glorious than the old covenant. New covenant living enables us to unwrap that unsurpassing glory of this indescribable gift. Enjoy Him this Christmas season – In Him we live and move and have our being.
