Genesis 2 (New Living Translation)
8 Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made. 9 The Lord God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
15 The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. 16 But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—17 except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
Genesis 3 (New Living Translation)
1 The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”
2 “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. 3 “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”
4 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. 5 “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”
God’s plan from the very outset is to have man abide in the Tree of Life (Christ/ Spirit life) instead of the Tree of knowledge of good and evil (flesh life). God’s being through His breath of life to Adam’s nostrils allowed perfect relationship/fellowship between man and God in the Garden of Eden. Man was God conscious, not sin conscious nor self conscious. The Tree of Life represents living a life on full dependency of God, liberty, resting in Him and bearing fruit of the Spirit like peace, joy, love…..(Gal 5:22)
The enemy’s plan from the outset is to pervert God’s plan. Adam’s disobedience to God and obedience to Satan by eating the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil resulted in man living a life of self-ability, sin conciousness, self conciousness, condemnation, fear, bondage and producing fruit like impatience, jealousy, strife…..
Have you seen a fruit hanging on a tree sweating away furiously and anxiously day by day to get ripen? Fruit bearing is a natural outcome of relationship of abiding in that tree. Just hang on! The fruit of the Spirit is a natural outcome of abiding in the Tree of life (abiding in Him), not an outcome of works! Make no mistake -abiding in the wrong Tree of knowledge of good and evil will bear a wrong type of fruit!
It is fruit time! A healthy relationship with Jesus Christ will bear good fruit. Just hang on to the right tree and stop struggling to produce fruit.
A touch of wisdom :
Matthew 7 (New Living Translation)
15 “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
Q and A session : what tree do you abide in to produce the fruit of the Spirit in Gal 5:22?
